Welcome to SICI, the organisation of national and regional inspectorates of education in Europe. It was founded in 1995 and has at this moment 29 members. SICI provides services to its member organisations and contributes to the development of education in Europe with data and analyses based on direct observation of school practices. 

SICI members have varying roles in their respective countries. All have a remit to evaluate the quality of schools and education. Also, they share a public status and are funded by national or, in decentralised school systems, by regional governments.

SICI has two main objectives.

Firstly, it provides services to its members. These are geared at developing the professional expertise of inspectorates and their staff and include specialised workshops, professional networks, a newsletter and an interactive website. The website offers information, publications and workspaces (‘communities’) for SICI members.

SICI also contributes to the understanding of education developments in Europe and in its member countries. It does so by comparative research, European projects and by active participation in conferences and seminars. To this purpose we work together with other multilateral organisations: European Schoolnet , the European Commission, OECD and CIDREE.

Recent and running projects include: Effective School Self Evaluation (ESSE), International ICT School Portraits (ERNIST), Comparative Analysis of Teaching an Learning (ICALT), Peer Learning (P2P) and Validation of Peer Learning Practices (P2V)

Membership:

SICI is funded by contributions from the member countries. Each member contributes 3000 EURO per year towards the cost of the Secretariat and the Executive Committee.
