The function of the Hesse School Inspectorate (HSI) is to make an analysis of quality in all general education and occupational training schools in Hesse on the basis of a theoretical and empirically based Reference System (Hessian Reference Framework for School Quality; Hessischer Referenzrahmen Schulqualität – HRS). On the basis of various sources of information a situation report on the school is made which gives a balance between strengths and weaknesses. Recommendations and suggestions for action are not given, as the Inspectorate is not responsible for these matters. The schools may consult the Regional State School Office (Staatliches Schulamt) or look for advice on the external free market.
